Twin Gables
...bed and breakfast
On the Lower Columbia Water Trail

Welcome to Twin Gables, a bed and breakfast inn, located in Skamokawa,
Wahkiakum County, in Southwest Washington State.
Twin Gables offers you a choice of two ensuite
rooms overlooking Skamokawa Creek, a full
breakfast featuring locally produced foods, and attentive
but not obtrusive service from hospitable innkeepers.
Twin Gables Bed and Breakfast sits on the banks of Skamokawa Creek, centrally
located in the Skamokawa ("ska-MOCK-away") Historic District. Skamokawa
is a three hour drive from Seattle, just under two hours from Portland.
Twin Gables is the perfect starting point for a day of exploration of this Lower
Columbia estuary area. Kayaks can be rented at the Paddle Center, just five
minutes walk from the B&B. The local sloughs and Skamokawa Creek provide
an ideal afternoon's paddle, on quiet and calm waters.
For the more experienced, Columbia River
Kayaking offers guided tours on the wilder
waters of the Columbia.
Walkers and cyclists will find miles of flat roads with light traffic on the Julia
Butler Hansen Refuge for the Columbian White Tail Deer, also a short stroll
away. Skamokawa Vista Park, again just a few minutes walk away, offers a
sandy beach and the opportunity to watch the passing ship traffic.
This stretch of the Lower Columbia is very sparsely populated. Wildlife
abounds. Away from the lights of the cities, you can reacquaint yourself with
bright light of the stars.
Boaters will enjoy the convenience of a private dock.
Launch your boat at nearby Vista Park and avoid the
lines at the marina.
History buffs will find nearby Redmen Hall
(a five minute walk away), a pleasure to tour.
A permanent exhibit tells the story of Skamokawa
from the time of its earliest inhabitants up to the
present day. Changing exhibits throughout the
showcase the works of regional photographers,
painters, fibre artists and more.
Redmen Hall is home to a gift shop featuring works
of area artists and craftspeople, and a bookstore
focusing on the life and culture of the Columbia Pacific region. You'll find
local authors, fiction and non fiction, as well as regional
cookbooks and books for children.
